OBSERVATORY HILL
The Observatory Hill project is located on Observatory Hill in Charlottesville Virginia. Not far from UVA's campus, the site currently has an observatory space that works on limited operation, and a couple abandoned buildings. This project proposes a joint student hub, for observation, lectures, and relaxation, as well a visiting professor lodge. For this program, I chose to use a broken bar scheme, with symmetrical elements located on different levels of the hill. The observatory and student hub is located higher up on the hill, with views outward toward the woods, and space for guest lectures. The lodge is shifted downward and imbedded into the hill, with a rooftop garden, allowing the space to be tucked in and provide a quieter isolated environment.
